Six chapters: understand it before you build it.
My journey has not been perfect. I have made mistakes, faced challenges, and experienced moments when things did not go as planned. But each experience has taught me something valuable about my work, about growth, and about myself. I have learned to reflect, adapt, and keep moving forward. I am not perfect, and I am still learning. What matters to me is the progress I continue to make and the person and professional I am becoming along the way.
01Before the internet
Paper, chalk, and a stubborn question
I grew up in a rural part of Nigeria, where the nearest computer was an idea rather than a machine. What I had was paper, a blackboard, and a stubborn interest in why things behave the way they do. Mathematics was never a school subject to me. It was the first tool I was handed for describing reality.
02Mathematics first
Years of modelling before a single framework
I took that interest as far as it would go. B.Sc. in Mathematics Education, then an M.Tech. in Industrial Mathematics and M.Sc. in Mathematics and Scientific Computing. Long before I learned a framework, I learned to sit with a problem until its structure showed itself. That is still the most useful engineering skill I own.
03The turn to code
The moment I started the practical aspect that I have been longing for
Code arrived as the answer to a question mathematics had already asked me: what if the model could run? The first time a program produced a result I had only ever computed by hand.
04Europe
Scholarships, and a long way from home
InterMath Erasmus Mundus took me to Europe. I finished an M.Sc. in Mathematical Modelling & Scientific Computing between L'Aquila, Italy and Hamburg, Germany at 110/110, and resumed back to writing software that over 5000 users depend on.
05Production
Frontend to infrastructure, on purpose
Since then I've built for teams in Italy, Spain, Nigeria the U.S. and remote-first startups. I work across the stack because the interesting problems never respect the boundary.
06And I teach
Shortening the distance
I also teach, partly because explaining something is how I prove to myself that I understand it. Mostly because somewhere there is a student in a rural classroom doing mathematics on paper, and the distance between there and here should be shorter than it was for me.
